Sweetface Scans Frequently Asked Questions
Can I invite family and friends to my ultrasound?
Yes. You may bring up to five (5) guests, including children. Children must be supervised by an adult.
What is an elective ultrasound? What is a diagnostic ultrasound?
An elective ultrasound is not ordered by your doctor and is for bonding and keepsake images only. You will not receive any reports or paper confirmations of pregnancy. A diagnostic ultrasound is ordered by your OB/GYN to check your baby’s health, due date, and anatomy.
What is ultrasound?
Ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive, painless exam that uses sound waves (not radiation) to create real-time images of your baby and internal organs.
How does it work?
A small probe (transducer) and gel are placed on your skin. The probe sends sound waves into the body, collects the echoes, and a computer turns them into images on the screen.
Is it safe?
Yes. Ultrasound does not use ionizing radiation. It has been studied for over 30 years and is considered safe for mom and baby when used properly.
Does this take the place of an ultrasound at my doctor’s office?
No. Our ultrasounds are elective and non-diagnostic. They do not replace the medical ultrasounds ordered by your OB/GYN.
How far along should I be for a 2D/3D4D/HD Live ultrasound?
We scan in 2D starting 6 weeks. If you are 6-9 weeks, please arrive to appointment with a FULL bladder. For 3D/4D/HD Live, we recommend 28–34 weeks for the best images.
Are you able to tell the sex of the baby?
Yes, starting at 16 weeks with ultrasound, but it depends on baby’s position and cooperation. If we can’t see gender at 16+ weeks, we offer one free 10-minute Sweet Scan within 7 days (gender only).
Will I always get a perfect image of my baby?
We strive to get the perfect images of the baby face but not always due we. Image quality depends on baby’s position, age, fluid level, and mom’s body. We do our best, but full face images are not guaranteed.
Is the 2D/3D/4D/HD Live ultrasound covered by insurance?
No. These are elective, non-diagnostic scans and are not covered by insurance. We accept exact cash, major cards, Apple Pay, Cash App, and Afterpay (for $150+).
What should I do to prepare for my appointment?
Drink 32–48 oz of water daily for 3–5 days BEFORE your scan (water recommended), and eat a light snack about 30 minutes before your appointment.
What are the differences between 2D, 3D, 4D, and 5D (HD Live)?
2D: Flat, black-and-white image.
3D: Still, three-dimensional image with more detail.
4D: Moving 3D video of baby in real time.
5D/HD Live: More realistic, lifelike color and depth.
Will I get my package materials the same day?
Most items are ready the same day. Specialty items:
- Hyper-realistic enhancements: up to 11 business days
What if the gender of the baby is not determined at my visit? Can I have a rescan at no cost?
Yes. If you are 16+ weeks and we can’t determine gender, we offer one free 10-minute Sweet Scan within 7 days. Gender only; images or extra time can be purchased.
